COLLABORATIONS

The Wool is Wild and Returns to the Land

These images are the fruit of an ongoing collaboration between feltmaker Kristina Foley and photographer Christine James. It embodies the artists’ shared belief in reciprocity between humans and the natural world.

The series begins in the fields of Night Song Farm, nestled in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge. There, a lovingly tended flock of 20 Icelandic x Corriedale sheep is kept by cinematographer duo Allison Anderson Triplett and Logan Triplett, along with their daughter Marlow and their herding dog.

Shortly after, the artists returned to the farm with Avery Thompson and Kendall Miller of Good Karma Shearing. Everyone took part as the sheep were gently and respectfully shorn. The wool was then skirted and selected by Kristina to become the raw material for her feltmaking practice.

The artworks created with wool from Night Song Farm were brought to life in a feltmaking ritual not far from the flock’s pasture.
